EU project participants of Metropoles met each other once again, this time in early spring in Helsinki. The event lasted for three days and contained MT-meetings, a one-day seminar and an evening session with two other EU-projects, CLUSNET and CTUR. The programme was followed by study visits to developing creative areas in Helsinki during the last day of the event.
The seminar ”Evidence Based Urban Policy & Creative Districts”, as Experience exchange event in the frame of Creative Metropoles project, was held at the cultural arena Gloria in the city centre and about 90 people were in attendance. Both international CM-people and Finnish creative sector developers presented during the specialist seminar. Vivid dicussions occurred during the session about the role of creativity in developing societies and cities and about finding suitable environments for actors and business in the creative sector.
The evening session took place in the Hernesaari harbor area. During the evening programme the audience was introduced both to the EU projects present in the programme and to the future plans of the industrial harbour area, which will in the near future be the first steps on land for hundreds of thousands of tourists arriving yearly to Helsinki from the sea on the cruise ships. During the evening about 200 people gathered to enjoy the versatile programme and good Finnish food and drink.
The study visits were carried out in Kalasatama/Suviahti area, Arabianranta and the Design Destrict in the centre. The CM participants got to see some of the features in these areas such as historical buildings under development, the Fiskars factory in action and some juicy design shops.
