Celtic Communities Link at Irish Project Launch

Irish and Welsh community leaders exchanged ideas and best practice at the Irish launch of the Celtic Community Link project on 4th April last.  Chris Tomos from Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services addressed the event with innovative examples of local community development in Carmarthenshire.
Exchanging ideas and best practice between Carmarthenshire, Waterford and South Tipperary is a key goal of Celtic Community Link.  The project also aims to provide information, advice and support to the participating rural communities to enhance their competitive advantage in both Ireland and Wales.
As part of the recent trip, the Welsh delegation visited examples of community development projects in South Tipperary and Waterford.
Speaking at the launch the National President of Muintir na Tíre, Martin Quinn said, “Celtic Community Link will address the barriers to rural community development by mobilising the expertise and resources of communities in Ireland & Wales to stimulate social and economic development”.
A lively exchange between the communities in Ireland and Wales followed presentations from the Irish Project Officers on their progress to date.  The event was well attended by representatives from the participating communities in Waterford and South Tipperary and interested community leaders from other parts of the Irish region.
