techfood: TRACEABILITY

15th June 2011 - 13.30-16.30

Hosted by: Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics, CATT Management GmbH

Venue: Lebensministerium, 1010 Vienna, Stubenring 1, 1st Floor, Saal II

The traceability and labelling of food  is a more and more evolving trend in food production. Recurrent food scandals reinforce the consumers’ desire for safe and traceable products backed up by legislation. From producers’ point of view traceability and labelling of goods stand for additional efforts but otherwise both minimize the risks in case of incidents and offer new marketing opportunities. Even though implementation needs specific technologies the topic will gain more and more importance as the Austrian Governmental Program 2008 – 2013 mentions. Controlled and reliable information on product origins and processings will strengthen the confidence of consumers.
