Workshop “Evidence on European Land Use”

Brussels, 24 May 2011

The Workshop “Evidence on European Land Use”workshop will address different perspectives and methodologies that are being used to characterise Land Use.

The workshop will look at the problems and constrains raised and solutions that have been put in place in different ESPON projects and experiences outside ESPON.

Conclusions on common approaches and, if feasible, on possible synergies in the further work on Land Use issues are envisaged.

The workshop is organised in cooperation with the ESPON project EU-LUPA regarding European Land Use Patterns.

Aim

The aim of the workshop is to share experiences, to transfer knowledge and to contribute to the debate Land Use in Europe and ways in which its assessment can be approached. This will facilitate a pan-European discussion and enable the EU-LUPA project to present their perspective and progress, and discuss the validity of their results achieved so far.

The morning is divided in two sessions. The first session will address the challenge of combining statistical and spatial information by looking into data sources and methodologies. The second session will look into the various approaches to Land Use by addressing past and current relevant experiences.

The afternoon starts with three parallel working groups, each of them focusing on a specific Land Use issue with regard to the EU-LUPA project. The time schedule will give the participants the opportunity to debate each of the issues addressed.

At the end of the workshop a plenary debate is scheduled. All key note speakers will participate in this expressing and discussing their visions with the audience.
