The former NSR project North Sea Cycle Route is celebrating its 10th anniversary today. On 5 May 2001 the cycle route around the North Sea was inaugurated with an opening ceremony in Hamburg and a bike tour to the Netherlands and Denmark.
Ten years later the route has gained fame as the longest cycle route in the world, with 6000 kilometres of signposted trails along North Sea coastline, passing seven different countries on the way. Thousands of cyclists use the route every year and make it a successful example for the longterm impacts of Interreg funding.
