The EGTC Regulation Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary

The regulation on a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation, adopted on 5 July 2006, is celebrating its fifth aniversary - it is time for a first assessment

Facts and figures (stand: July 2011)

  • All Member States have eventually adopted national implementation provisions. All provisions can be downloaded from our website on this page.
  • Nearly 20 EGTCs have been created throughout Europe, of which one is managing an ETC programme (CBC Greater Region). Most EGTCs in place have a multifunctional character and address issues related to governance of a functional territories.
  • More than 20 EGTCs are in preparation in different regions of Europe.
  • The European Commission is preparing a report on the EGTC instrument, which will be presented to the European Parliament and Council by 1 August 2011. This report should include proposals of modifications to the existing Regulation, based on contributions, and proposals made by the Committee of the Regions, INTERACT and other stakeholders.
