RETINA meeting in Budapest

278224_1436959020233_1720736911_698684_3754812_o ReTInA (REvitalisation of Traditional INdustrial Areas in South East Europe) project within the INTERREG South East Europe Programme has reached its third year of implementation. Having Csepel as lead partner and 8 other cities from altogether seven countries, they are working on developing a set of tools and methods that help the revitalization process of former industrial areas that have mostly lost their previous functions to become advanced, competitive and livable city quarters.

In the meeting of 7-8 July at Csepel, in a factory hall of the former Vasmű (Iron Factory) the municipal experts together with the partners held a public working discussion about the elements of the organisational, economic-financial, and legal framework inevitable for the successful revitalisation.

The Masterclass on Friday afternoon had also a special relevance for Csepel and for all participants: Hungarian officials and consultants shared the most vital organizational and financial know-how of brownfield revitalization with the audience.

In the framework of the project, a joint framework for planning procedures, a sample workplan will be elaborated until April 2012, which will serve as a guide for all municipalities facing similar challenges. In parallel with the joint framework, the local action plan of the Csepel Iron Factory area (and all other partners’ brownfield areas) will be elaborated. In the implementation of the plans, the partner network of the interest groups will be continuously involved.

Since there are several industrial areas that have lost their former functions in Budapest and in other Hungarian cities, after the successful completion of the project Csepel will not only acquire a sound basis for its own revitalization process but can also serve as an example for the revitalization objectives of other cities.
