(Network of Institutes of the Mediterranean)
The Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Barcelona in November 2006 emphasised the wishes at European level to relaunch the euro-Mediterranean partnership, ten years after its establishment.
In this context, local authorities and, in particular, the reunited regions at the invitation of the Generalitat of Catalonia with the support of CRMP, have expressed a strong will to strengthen their ties for an improved coherence and greater effectiveness of policies directed to the Mediterranean. The Presidents of the six regions of Arco Latino, Andalusia, Catalonia, Piemonte, Liguria, Tuscany and Lazio, responded positively to the proposal made by Michel Vauzelle, President of the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, to establish a working group tasked to develop a common strategy and action plan to strengthen the position and the role of the regions in the context of the construction of an unique Mediterranean space. For this particular work, the project partners have expressed their willingness to rely on their respective Mediterranean institutes that has been asked to join in order to share their experiences, to propose a common strategy and to formulate some guidelines to strengthen the cooperation in the Mediterranean regions.
