The Mediterranean, this sea which draws us together: what integrated transport policy? Is the title for the thematic seminar focused on transports that will be held in Marseille (PACA) on February 17, 2011. The event is organised in the framework of Medgovernance, the project bringing together 6 Regions (PACA, Catalonia, Andalusia, Tuscany, Piedmont, Latium) alongside research institutes (Institut de la Méditerranée, IEMED, Fondation des Trois Cultures, Plural, Paralleli, Cespi) for the purpose of identifying and drafting policy recommendations for building a Mediterranean Area which fully integrates the contribution and role of the regional players.
The project began in 2009 with an analytical phase examining the governance framework for defining and implementing wide-ranging policies impacting the Mediterranean Area in 5 different fields: transport, competitiveness and innovation, the environment, culture and migration. For each of these themes, the question of "multi-level governance" and more especially that of the effective contribution of the Regions to these policies have been investigated through the analysis of case studies. The proposed way forward in the context of these events is to prepare a macro-regional strategy using the method adopted in the Baltic Area and in the Danube region. On 17 February, PACA Region is organising a thematic transport seminar in order to make progress on governance in terms of freight transport in the Mediterranean Basin.
