POWERING REGIONS FOR THE 21st CENTURY

Within the framework of the EUSEW (European Sustainable Energy Week) a side event was held last 14th April in the House of the Dutch Provinces in Brussels.

In this conference, called “Powering regions for the 21st century”, two European projects were presented: RENREN and MORE4NRG. The main aim of the conference was discussing about how regional authorities can influence on an energy landscape and about increasing renewable features and energy efficiency.

Karin Maatje did the Presentation of the project MORE4NRG, and Diny Weener explained the results on policy and practical level from MORE4NRG.

The topics discussed were about which policies should implement the regional authorities to help energy sectors to overcome barriers in planning, financing, skills, research and other key areas.

Special mention has the final part that held the panel discussion, where the speakers put forward what regions could do in order to achieve the European targets for RES and how overcoming regional differences between them. It was also discussed how to address the shift from implementing a best practice until it becomes a regional policy.
