International Business Incubator Association in the Baltic Sea Region

Today business incubators and technology centres from Germany, Latvia, Norway, Sweden, Belarus and Denmark founded the International Business Incubator Association IBI NET. It is set to unite the business incubators of the Baltic Sea Region.

Founders of the association from Latvia are Riga Technical University and Business Development Incubator of Riga Region, while partners from other countries are Technology Centre of Western Pomerania and Technology Centre of Business Incubators "Oder" in Frankfurt, Germany, Teknikdalen Foundation in Sweden, Hedmark Innovation Centre in Norway, Scientific - Technological Park BNTU "Polytechnic" in Belarus and Business Centre in Bornholm, Denmark.

Association will function as a base for exchange of information, knowledge and experience among business incubators and enterprises and joint promotion of interests on international level. Goal of the Association is to stimulate the development of innovative enterprises with exporting capabilities in the Baltic Sea Region.

IBI Net Association welcomes other business incubators or other organizations which operate business incubators to engage in the association in the Baltic Sea Region.

Establishment of the Association, which took place in capital city of Germany, Berlin, was a part of „Intercountry Business Incubators Network" (IBI NET) Project. IBI NET is a Baltic Sea Region Project, which aims to establish and strengthen the transnational business incubator network in the Baltic Sea Region. Riga Planning Region is the Lead Partner of the Project. It is implemented in close cooperation with Riga Technical University (Latvia), Teknikdalen Foundation (Sweden), Municipality of Elblag City (Poland), Technology Centre of Western Pomerania (Germany), State Enterprise "Scientific - Technological Park BNTU "Polytechnic" (Belarus) and Innovation Centre in Hedmark (Norway).

Jānis Miezeris, Head of Administration of Riga Panning Region: „At the moment we and our partners are working to encourage the international collaboration among business incubators in Riga Region and other countries of the Baltic Sea Region. We are trying to enhance their knowledge and to unreleas the potential of international collaboration and information exchange among the business incubators and the enterprises. The decision of the development of IBI NET association is a significant step towards the ensuring the sustainability of this collaboration beyond the project."
IBI NET project is being implemented from December 2009 until June 2012.
