The “Via Mobil” moving exhibition promotes the 3rd Saxon State Exhibition Görlitz 2011 and the Via Regia region.
Initiated by the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior, the partners of Via Regia Plus supported the European tour of the Via Mobil. The vehicle itself, which is used for the mobile exhibition, is equipped with an interactive media station, and an accompanying programme of talks and public discussion events taking place at the various stops along the route.
Until October 2010 the Via Mobil travelled along today’s Council of Europe Cultural Route and was presented in more than 45 towns and cities, from Santiago de Compostela via Pamplona to Bordeaux, Paris, Frankfurt am Main, Erfurt, Leipzig, Görlitz, Wrocław, Opole, Gliwice, Kraków and Rzeszów and on to Lviv and Kiev.
During 2011, the Via Mobil is on the road across Europe as a ‘travelling ambassador’ for the Via Regia and for the 3rd Saxon State Exhibition Görlitz 2011. It takes its visitors on a virtual journey between East and West, carrying them away into the history and future of this significant historical trade route. In the period from March to August 2011, the Via Mobil will visit educational institutions in the tri-border region around Görlitz. It will prepare visits to the 3rd Saxon State Exhibition and stimulate the interest among children and young people in topics linked to the Via Regia: What was the importance of the Via Regia for their home region in the past? Which features / historic buildings / institutions still bear witness today to the significance of this ancient trade route? What are the future prospects? Against this background they can address questions of how cross-border contacts and relationships can be revitalised today, and what activities they, as school pupils, can initiate to find out more about the language, economy or culture of their neighbouring countries.
