FUTSAL - Football Project Kicks Off

Football Used Towards Social Advancement & Learning

The FUTSAL project was launched recently at the Republic of Ireland v Wales Carling Nations Cup game.  A joint Ireland Wales initiative sees the Football Association of Ireland and the Welsh Football Trust working together to use football as a social inclusion tool in local communities.  Part-funded by the Ireland Wales Programme through the European Regional Development Fund, the project will research the effectiveness of football as a social inclusion tool within 12 disadvantaged communities (Hubs) in Ireland and Wales.

- 12 Hubs will be set up in Ireland and Wales to provide education and personal development through football for 30 participants at each Hub.

- A series of pan-disability teams will be attached to each Hub to support the delivery of football to players with disabilities in the communities.

- Research on the effectiveness of football as a tool towards social inclusion will be completed to assess football’s impact on education, community involvement, pan-disabilities and work opportunities.

The project will see over 16,000 people take part in health enhancing physical activity through volunteer activities in Ireland and Wales.  If you are interested in the Futsal Project, please contact:
