ENPI CBCMED: 250 people attended the launching conference of the call for strategic projects

The launching conference of the call for strategic projects was successful. The conference that took place in Valencia last Wednesday (18th May) was the first of the four cross-border events organised by the Joint Managing Authority to promote this new opportunity for joint cooperation.
During the opening session, Mr. Rafael Ripoll, Regional Vice-Minister for European Affairs of Generalitat Valenciana, highlighted the importance of the Programme as an efficient working tool offered to local actors in an evolving Euro-Mediterranean setting. According to Mr. Ripoll, the financial envelope of the call, i.e. € 62,4 million, can certainly foster a more sustainable and stable cooperation in the Mediterranean region.
Mr. José Manuel Garcia-Margallo Y Marfil, Spanish member of the European Parliament, underlined that the call for strategic represents a real opportunity for joint development around 6 topics that are common challenges at the Mediterranean level.
Both Mr. José José Luis Pardo, Deputy Director General for EU General Affairs of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Mrs. Anna Catte, Director of the Joint Managing Authority, insisted on the strategic nature of the call focusing on the coherence between its objectives and those more global of the European Neighborhood Policy. Furthermore, the two speakers mentioned some key features of quality projects such as the cross-border dimension of the partnerships, the sustainability of the results in the long run or the synergies with other ongoing initiatives in the Mediterranean area.
Following the presentation of the main rules for participation of the call, two sessions addressing the 6 strategic topics gave rise to a first exchange among potential project applicants supported by the staff of the Joint Managing Authority and Joint Technical Secretariat of the Programme, in particular regarding the logical framework approach as a tool for structuring project proposal.
In the afternoon, the partner search forum organised in cooperation with RCBI gave the opportunity to all participants to share project ideas and enhance the cross-border nature of the partnerships.
The Joint Managing Authority would like to thank all the participants as well as the Spanish delegation, the Generalitat Valenciana, the Valencia Branch Office and the entire RCBI team for their precious contribution in organizing this event.
The upcoming Programme events, namely Tunis (1st June), Nicosia (3rd June) and Beirut (6th June), will further promote the opportunity of the call for strategic projects.
