Environmental Conference: Empowering People & Ideas

The Green Communities project will host the 'Empowering People & Ideas' Conference on Friday 16th September 2011 at Croke Park, Dublin.

For the past three years the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce has operated the Green Communities Project in Ireland in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy in Wales. The Project is funded by EU fund, the Ireland Wales Programme 2007-13.

The project has empowered community groups to actively work towards enhancing biodiversity in their area as well as consciously reducing the carbon footprint of their group activity. These groups now have the confidence and know how to tackle other environmental themes that may be applicable to their situation.  The project also has a strong social aspect and supports many Community Gardens and other community group projects from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Green Communities project supports these vital groups by offering a small grants scheme, providing training, providing group support and advice, and by providing 3rd party public liability insurance for all member groups.

The event will celebrate the best by reviewing and highlighting the successes and achievements of the programme itself and more importantly those of the groups during this phase of the programme. The seminar will also look to the future of the Green Communities Programme as it moves to a national rollout and showcases the potential of the programme to possible future partners and sponsors.
