The winners of Fondation Grand Paradis "Dans les yeux, dans les eaux" photography competition have been announced.
The jury has announced the winners of the "Dans les yeux, dans les eaux" photography competition. The first prize goes to Louis Bochet for "Bioula de Mirko" (Mirko's birch). The second prize goes to Luca Fassio for his entry "Eriofori al lago Leità" (Cottongrass by Lake Leità) and the third prize goes to Marcella Ballara's "Narciso."
Five other entries have been awarded with a special commendation: "Le reveil" (Waking up) by Thierry Pronesti has been mentioned for being the most picturesque; "Conifere allo specchio" (Mirrored conifers) by Maria Cristina Catemario di Quadri for its simplicity and for the emotions it inspires. "Legno nel cielo" (Wood in the sky) by Fabio Bertuzzo has been mentioned for its surrealist perspective. Nicole Torresan's "Il salmerino" (Arctic char) has been awarded for the technical skill it demonstrates and for the originality of the reflection and perspective. Mauro Zanoboni's "I mostri del lago Leytaz" (Monsters of Lake Leytaz) has been mentioned for its visionary dimension.
The competition was promoted by Fondation Grand Paradis with the support of Nikon and the Mountain Photo Festival Association. There were more than 120 participants and over 320 entries.
Members of the jury included the photographer and forester Enzo Massa Micon, the representative of the mountain Photo Festival Association Alessandro Ottenga, the documentary maker Joseph Péaquin, the professional photographer Paolo Rey and the director of Fondation Grand Paradis, Luisa Vuillermoz. The selected photographs will be exhibited from the 26th of December on LED-backlit panels at the Gran Paradiso National Park visitors centre in Valsavarenche. The chosen images can be seen on Fondation Grand Paradis website (www.grand-paradis.it), in the competition section.
The theme of the competition, reflected images in mountain waters, has inspired authors not only from all over Italy, but also from France and Belgium. Entries portray many landscapes from Aosta Valley, but also from the rest of the Alps, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. Together the photographs reveal the magic and mystery of the world's mountains and their extraordinary images.
The judges have expressed satisfaction with the sensitivity of the perspective taken. They have especially valued the unusual reflections and points of view, as well as the originality of the composition.
Luisa Vuillermoz, director of Fondation Grand Paradis, states: "The competition is also a tool for increasing the awareness and knowledge of our surrounding environment. It is also a way of involving the visitors, who become the authors of some of the contents shown in the Park's Visitors Centres".
The three winner photographies will receive a NIKON D3000 reflex digital camera, the opportunity to take part for free in a nature photographic hike chosen among the ones proposed during the 2011 edition of Aosta Valley Photo Workshop and a TENBA camera bag.
The Gran Paradiso National Park Vistors Centre of Valsavarenche will be open every weekend until June 2011 (closed on the 25th of December) and every day from 26 December 2010 to 9 January 2011 and from 5 to 13 March 2011, from 2 to 6 pm.
