The 7th edition of the International Tourism Fair “Cultural Tourism” was hosted by Veliko Tarnovo municipality. Running from the 13th to the 16th of April 2011 participants from B2N regions took part in this fair and promoted the idea of the B2N project at a stand and with a presentation.
In addition to attending the Fair, B2N project partners learned about the experiences of Bulgaria in the implementation of business projects. The programme of the visit included meetings with entrepreneurs from the wine industry and visit to a chokeberry farm in the city of Elena producing juices and syrup from chokeberries (aronia). These can become regional products that will help to develop tourism in the area.
Veliko Turnovo, one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria, has a very diverse nature and picturesque mountains that are ideal for practicing ecotourism. Project participants familiarized themselves with examples of projects that are aimed to take advantage of this unique natural heritage. In close proximity to Veliko Tarnovo a natural path was created close to the “Hotnitsa” waterfall. Demonstrating a creative use of the built environment and a means to interpreting the history of an area the B2N visitors were also treated to the spectacular link of past and present technologies when they viewed the famous Veliko Tarnovo sound and light show.
Observations and conclusions from the study visit will be used when preparing the database of good practices.
